What is a one-of-one card?
“1/1” is one of the most used terms in collecting, and one of the most loosely borrowed. Here's what it actually means — and what it means when a card is of your own rookie.

The short answer
A one-of-one — written 1/1 — is a trading card issued as a single-copy edition. In the hobby, the manufacturer controls that print run. On Cardbop, 1/1 is an optional label you enter for a personal keepsake; Cardbop does not authenticate print scarcity or collectible value.
Hobby 1/1 vs custom 1-of-1
These get conflated constantly. The distinction is worth keeping straight, especially if someone is buying with resale in mind.

What does one-of-one (1/1) mean?+
It means exactly one copy of that card exists. In the trading card hobby it's a card the manufacturer printed only once from a set, usually stamped 1/1, and it's the rarest tier a set produces.
Why do collectors care about 1/1 cards?+
Scarcity. If a card exists once, no one else can own that copy, which is what drives demand for them within a set.
Is a custom 1-of-1 the same as a hobby 1/1?+
No. A hobby 1/1 is issued once within a manufacturer's controlled print run and may carry resale value. On Cardbop, 1/1 is an optional customer-entered edition label for a personal keepsake, not authenticated scarcity.
Does a custom 1-of-1 have resale value?+
Treat it as a keepsake rather than an investment. Its value is that it's yours; there's no market for a card of someone else's dog.
Does a Cardbop card have a serial number?+
It can. The serial or edition field is optional, and you may enter 1/1 or another number when it fits the card.
